MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL | KEEP AN EYE ON STATE PUBLIC RECORDS BOARD

In In the News, WILL News

The Wisconsin Public Records Board made significant changes last summer in determining what kind of records can be immediately destroyed. Many Wisconsinites have critisized the board for not giving proper public notice regarding its agenda for the meeting at which the changes were made. Ernst-Ulrich Franzen advises keeping an eye on the state Public Records Board in a Milwaukee Journal Sentinel article.

“Citizens sent nearly 1,900 emails and letters criticizing the August action. Among the critics were conservative and liberal groups — including the Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty, the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign and One Wisconsin Now — as well as ordinary citizens with no political ax to grind. People who simply understand the importance of open government, as well as the meaning of the word “significant.””
