Demond Means resigns as OSPP Commissioner after not meeting his statutory obligations

June 29, 2016 – Milwaukee, WI – In response to the announcement that OSPP Commissioner Demond Means has resigned, Cameron Sholty, Communications Director at the Wisconsin Institute for Law & Liberty, released the following statement.

“The OSPP has specific obligations under statute that it was tasked with. To date, we aren’t aware of former Commissioner Means meeting those obligations and the MPS proposal was legally inadequate.

Failing to implement the OSPP as outlined in statute exposed him to litigation and we made that clear in our statement yesterday.”

Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele appointed Means after the Wisconsin Legislature passed the Opportunity Schools and Partnership Program, an effort to turnaround failing schools in Milwaukee.
